people are just people

my natural personality is shy. very, shy. i tend to keep my thoughts to myself and i don't usually go out of my way to talk to people or get to know anyone. and for a really long time, that's how it was. but you know what? i've learned that doesn't really work in the real world. and it's definitely not working for me anymore.
'people are just people, they shouldn't make you nervous.' for me, easier said then done. but it's totally true. it makes me wish i could go back in time to high school and re-live all those times i was worried about what other people thought. because they were just people. and i had no good reason to not be my true self around them. it's been two years since i graduated high school, and although i've learned and grown through everything i've done since, i'm still that shy girl that doesn't say much. and you know what? that's okay. it's okay to be shy.because that's who i am. but i am going to try and put myself out there more and not worry about what other people think. because they're just people. and i'm going to be me. just a little braver.

land of the free

one thing people might not know about little old me is that i'm a very patriotic person. so much so that patriotic songs about soliders and america and whatnot often make me cry. and those videos of soldiers reuniting with their families? forget about it. you're gonna see some waterworks.

anyways, i just couldn't not post something about the fourth of july. i'm thankful for this country. for all the freedoms we enjoy. and especially all the men and women that fight for for those freedoms. you're all heroes, and you all hold a very special place in my heart. the fireworks and the popular red, white, and blue pinterest strawberries are great and all, but this is what it's all about for me.

Land of the free, because of the brave.

i've reached my melting point

just when i don't think utah could get any hotter, it does.
and i do not like it.
if it were up to me, it would be in the high 60s everyday, possibly low 70s.
with clouds in the sky. just cool enough to wear a sweater.
because i have more sweaters than any normal person should have.
but until then, i'll run all my errands around 8. and make frequent fro yo stops.
thank goodness for fro yo.

twenty three years ago...

...my parents got married. twenty three years! that's getting up there. one thing i always love to do is watch my parent's wedding video. they're just so darn cute and so in love. every time i watch it i just hope that one day i can find someone who makes me just as happy as my parents make each other. i love you, mom and dad. and i hope you had a wonderful anniversary!

aren't they just the cutest?

who knew i would love art history so much

i love my art history class. why? because my teacher is kind of the best. and he has these one liners that just make you think. and i love it. today, the quote was:

"God sees you as you can be, but he loves you as you are, whatever that may be."

i'm pretty sure that this quote was meant for me. not because i feel like God doesn't love me or anything, but just because i feel like i can be so much more than what i am. and even though i already know it, it's reassuring to know that God has a plan for me so much greater than anything i have planned for myself. a lot of the time i wish i was more creative, artistic, stylish, athletic, whatever. but guess what? i can be those things. and i will be. i just need to see myself as my Heavenly Father sees me. but while i'm working on that, He still loves me. He wants me to be the best me possible, and I know that the only way to do that is with Him by my side.

art begins by revealing the artist to you but ends by revealing you to yourself. there's just so much truth in art that i never knew before. i love learning about it. it's simply beautiful.

*if you ever go to LDSBC, please take art history with brother gough. i pinky promise it will be one of the best classes you ever take.
